Amendments to the entry ban for people who travel to #Sweden 🇾đŸ‡Ș✈️
.
As of 21 January, the entry ban for people who travel to Sweden will be amended.
.
For example, people who can present a COVID-19 vaccination certificate issued in Thailand are exempt from the entry ban and COVID-19 test requirement when travelling to Sweden. [Swedish citizens can always enter Sweden and are exempted from the requirement to present a negative COVID-19 test.]
.
However, the airline might still require a negative test to travel. We recommend to always check airline requirements prior to travel.

CCSA to mull reinstating Pattaya, Chiang Mai 'sandboxes'

The Center for Covid-19 Situation Administration will consider relaxing coronavirus restrictions Thursday, which might mean Pattaya and Chiang Mai become tourist sandboxes again.

Pattaya and Chiang Mai may again become tourist "sandboxes" Thursday when the Center for Covid-19 Situation Administration considers relaxing coronavirus restrictions.

In addition to restarting the Test & Go tourist-entry scheme as early as Feb. 1, the CCSA will vote on proposals to reinstate "sandbox" status for Chiang Mai, Chonburi, Khon Kaen and Samut Prakan provinces.

The four provinces were among 16 that lost sandbox status Dec. 21 when the CCSA over-reacted and reimposed strict entry controls and other restrictions in response to the emergence of the omicron coronavirus variant.

On Jan. 4, the CCSA then raised the country's Covid-19 alert level to four, extended the suspension of Test & Goreduced alcohol-sales hours for restaurants and recoded 29 provinces as orange coronavirus-control zones.

Tomorrow the CCSA is expected to drop the alert level to three. No mention of re-extending booze-selling hours to 11 p.m. has been rumored, although the CCSA said some restrictions would be left up to provincial governors.
Test & Go allows fully vaccinated tourists from specified countries to do only one night in quarantine and take two PCR-RT tests Covid-19 tests within the first week.

Sandboxes allow those from other countries to arrive in Phuket and other sandbox areas and leave their hotel, but remain in the area for one week.

Suspending both programs in December crippled Thailand's effort to revive its international tourism industry. Phuket was left as the only sandbox until January, when areas in Surat Thani, Phangnga and Krabi were added.

Chonburi, which includes Pattaya, has been desperate to restart its sandbox program as, without Test & Go, no one has been arriving in the city. However, the province – led by Pattaya – has been the epicenter of the omicron wave with more cases than anywhere for most of this month.

The outbreak appears to be waning in Chonburi, however, with case numbers falling for most of the past week. On Wednesday, the province reported 506 confirmed cases with 256 of those in Banglamung District, which includes Pattaya.

Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul admitted omicron hasn't been as bad as he feared. While case numbers have soared – Thailand reported 7,122 confirmed cases and 12 deaths on Wednesday, although there are thousands of more unofficial and unreported cases – hospitalizations and deaths have remained low and in control.

Dr. Yong Poovorawan, head of the Center of Excellence in Clinical Virology at the Faculty of Medicine of Chulalongkorn University, said that omicron caused about 90% of Covid-19 infections over the past month and likely would replace all other variants this month.

The original version of this story appeared in the Bangkok Herald, a Pattaya Mail partner.

Chonburi crocodile farmers encourages consumers to eat crocodile instead of pork and chicken due to rising prices - The Pattaya News

Chonburi crocodile farmers encourages consumers to eat crocodile instead of pork and chicken due to rising prices

A crocodile farm in Si Racha is encouraging consumers to eat crocodile meat instead of pork and chicken as prices for the latter meats continue to rise, while crocodile meat has high protien with less cholesterol and remains affordable, according to farmers.

First, as a reference, the current situation in Chonburi with rising prices of pork especially:

Pork prices in Chonburi have been increasing, like most of Thailand, and according to officials from relevant agencies it is primarily due to a pig's disease, 'African swine fever, or ASF'.

Chonburi pork prices continue to increase, customers and vendors complain, officials taking action

Pork, chicken, and egg prices in Pattaya and Chonburi have been increasing, like most of Thailand, and have affected both sellers and buyers.

Rising prices of pork, chicken, and eggs continue to cause concerns in Pattaya and Chonburi

Now, for our featured story:

Mr. Sumet Panyasakorn, the managing director of the Si Racha Crocodile Farm and Products company, told local Chonburi media earlier this week, "We produce 1,000 kilograms of crocodile meat that we bring to local markets per day. It is now not enough for rising demand as local consumers are starting to choose to eat more crocodile meat instead of pork and chicken meat. This is primarily due to concerns of rising prices of other types of meat, especially pork, in Thailand."

"We will not increase crocodile meat prices and want to reassure our customers of this. We currently sell crocodile for 85 Baht per kilogram for wholesale purchases of more than 30 kilograms and 120 Baht per kilogram for retail/individual purchases." Sumet explained.

"Before the pork and chicken price increase, we sold only 30 percent of our crocodile meat in Thailand while 70 percent of our supply was exported to other countries. Now, we are selling 50 percent of our stock in the country and this number continues to increase." Sumet added.

"Crocodile meat has high protein and less cholesterol. It is good for one's health and the price is not high. We strongly suggest people try it if they never have before and see that it can be a great cost-affordable replacement for pork while prices in this category remain high." Sumet concluded.

Crocodile meat has had a lot of discussion on our Thai social media recently, notes TPN media, with many Thai residents agreeing with Sumet's thoughts. However, many English-language readers online, many who admitted they had never tried crocodiles, remained apprehensive.
