The Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-O-Cha, announced today, January 5th, 2021, that he has ordered his economic team to create measures of financial aid to help people who are unemployed, furloughed, or have business closures due to a current round of Covid-19 clusters of infections around the country.

Prime Minister Prayut said the government has enough funds to help roughly forty million people who are directly and indirectly affected by the current Covid-19 virus infections.

Prayut said the measures will be assigned to the Ministry of Finance and related agencies to find solutions as soon as possible. This is in addition to the already announced social security measures for those who are unemployed and have social security. The Pattaya News notes that the primary areas affected by the recent rounds of restrictions are entertainment venues whose workers, for the most part, don't have social security and are informal workers. It is "unclear" if these announced measures will assist informal workers.

The Prime Minister also called for assistance from the hotel industry on refunding hotel bookings over the New Year's period that were canceled due to Covid-19 measures.

Announcements on measures should be coming up in the near future, Prayut concluded.
